For the first time since the 2018 World Cup, Lionel Messi has been named in the Argentina squad.
He has missed 6 friendlies since retiring from international duty after their defeat to eventual winners France in the last 16.
Former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria, now of PSG, has also been recalled.
Messi is his country’s record scorer with 65 goals from 128 games. He initially retired after the 2016 Copa America before changing his mind less than 8 weeks later. He has had another change of heart under the new manager Lionel Scaloni it would seem.
Notable absentees from the squad include Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain and Erik Lamela, with fellow Premier League stars Nicolas Otamendi, Juan Foyth, Roberto Pereyra and Manuel Lanzini all being included in the provisional 31 man-squad for the friendlies against Venezuela and Morocco.
